Cuehood is the experience of Cued Speech itself. Cued Speech is an experience of native languages in a visual mode. Native cuers who grew up with Cued Speech as their primary mode of communication have a specific experience with language and access in regards to both the visual and acoustic space. Regarded as “highly flexible communicators” in a research study, native cuers tend to have the ability to adapt to a variety of communication modes, and as a group, they tend to have stronger literacy skills than their counterparts with hearing loss.
